Với sự phát triển nhanh chóng trong sản xuất thực phẩm giàu năng lượng trên toàn thế giới cùng với chế độ ăn bất cẩn, nhân loại đã và đang sống trong một môi trường có tác động tiêu cực đến sức khỏe. Do đó, chúng ta đang tự sát và rút ngắn tuổi thọ của con người. Các nghiên cứu gần đây đã xác nhận béo phì làm tăng nguy cơ ung thư trong 11 loại ung thư khác nhau (thực quản, dạ dày, đại tràng, trực tràng, ống dẫn mật, tuyến tụy, vú, nội mạc tử cung, buồng trứng, thận và tủy). Cùng lúc với sự gia tăng tỷ lệ béo phì trên toàn thế giới, tỷ lệ bệnh đái tháo đường cũng đã tăng lên đáng kể. Ứớc tính sẽ có đến 642 triệu người mắc bệnh đái tháo đường vào năm 2040.

Để thành công trong điều trị bệnh béo phì và đái tháo đường, người bệnh phải có vai trò tích cực trong quá trình điều trị (thay đổi lối sống bao gồm cả chế độ ăn uống hợp lý và vận động thể lực thường xuyên trong cuộc sống hàng ngày). Tuy nhiên, kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy hầu hết những người tham gia các nghiên cứu can thiệp thay đổi lối sống không thể duy trì sự cải tiến sức khỏe sau khi chương trình can thiệp kết thúc. Vì vậy, cần phải xây dựng một giải pháp tiếp cận mới để giải quyết những thách thức trên. Đó là duy trì tính bền vững của lối sống lành mạnh đã được khuyến cáo.

Abstract

With the rapid evolution in the manufacturing and production of energy dense foods worldwide coupled with careless diet, the human race has been living in an environment that exerts strong negative impacts on Health; subsequently, we are killing ourselves and shortening our lifespan. Recent studies have confirmed that Obesity increases the cancer risk in 11 different types of cancer [Oesophageal, Gastric Cardia, Colon, Rectum, Biliary tract, Pancreas, Breast, Endometrium, Ovary, Kidney& Myeloma]. Parallel with the increase in the rate of obesity worldwide, diabetes prevalence has also increased dramatically. It is estimated that based on the current rate, there will be 642 million people with diabetes by 2040.

Up to date, it is well known and accepted that to be successful in treating obesity and diabetes, the patients must take an active role in the process (lifestyle modification including both proper diet and regular physical activity in their daily life). Unfortunately, most participants in the lifestyle intervention studies could not maintain their progress soon after the programs are completed. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop an approach that will address the above challenge, i.e. the sustainability of the recommended healthy lifestyle.
