Điều tra thiếu vitamin A tiền lâm sàng và thiếu máu ở 8152 trẻ em < 5 tuổi, của 56 tỉnh thành, được tiến hành vào cuối năm 2008. Kết quả cho thấy tỷ lệ thiếu vitamin A tiền lâm sàng (retinol huyết thanh < 0,7 µmol/L) là 14,2%; tỷ lệ thiếu máu (Hb<110g/L) là 29,2%, thuộc mức trung bình về ý nghĩa sức khỏe cộng đồng. Tỷ lệ thiếu vitamin A và thiếu máu dao động nhiều theo vùng sinh thái, theo tỉnh trong mỗi vùng sinh thái; nhóm trẻ <24 tháng tuổi có tỷ lệ thiếu vitamin A và thiếu máu cao nhất. Cần có những biện pháp can thiệp đặc hiệu, nhằm hạ thấp tỷ lệ này trong những năm tới.

Abstract:
A survey on anemia and sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency was carried out in 8152 children < 5y, belong to 56 provinces in Oct-Nov 2008. The results indicated that sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency (serum retinol < 0.7µmol/L) was 14,2%; Anemia prevalence (Hb<110g/L) was 29.2%, ranking as mild level of public health significance. The prevalence of sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency varied among provinces and ecological areas. The young children aged < 24 months were founds to be at high risk of anemia and vitamin A deficiency. The specific intervention measures should be developed and implemented to reduce anemia and vitamin A deficiency rates in the coming years.
