A cross sectional survey was conducted in 394 children aged 12-35 months and their mothers in Nghia Dan district of Nghe An province in 2014. The objective is to assess nutritional status and dietary intake of the children and knowledge and practices on child care and feeding of their mothers. Children aged 12-35 months were measured weight and height, their food intake data were taken and their mothers were interviewed about feeding knowledge and practices. The results showed that child stunting rate was at high level in children 12-35 months old (31.5%). The rate was significantly higher in girls than in boys (p<0.05). Underweight prevalence was at a lower level (13.7%). The ratio of Protein: Lipid: Carbohydrates was 17.2: 22.5: 60.3. Maternal knowledge and practices on child care and feeding of the mother were quite poor still.

Abstract:
Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang trên 394 trẻ 12-35 tháng và mẹ của những trẻ này được thực hiện tại huyện Nghĩa Đàn, tỉnh Nghệ An năm 2014. Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu là đánh giá tình trạng dinh dưỡng (TTDD), khẩu phần của trẻ và kiến thức thực hành của bà mẹ về nuôi dưỡng và chăm sóc trẻ. Trẻ 12-35 tháng tuổi được cân đo, hỏi ghi khẩu phần và phỏng vấn bà mẹ về kiến thức thực hành nuôi dưỡng trẻ. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy: Tỷ lệ SDD thể thấp còi ở trẻ 12-35 tháng còn ở mức cao là 31,5%. Tỷ lệ SDD thấp còi ở trẻ gái cao hơn so với trẻ trai (p<0,05). Tỷ lệ SDD cân nặng theo tuổi ở mức thấp là 13,7%.Tỷ lệ của 3 chất sinh năng lượng (P:L:G) trong khẩu phần của trẻ là 17,2:22,5:60,3. Kiến thức và thực hành về nuôi dưỡng trẻ đúng của các bà mẹ có con 12-35 tháng còn thấp.
