Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang được tiến hành hai lần trong năm 2008 và 2010 trên đối tượng bà mẹ ở 2 tỉnh Quảng Ngãi và Phú Thọ, nhằm đánh giá sự thay đổi về thực hành cho trẻ ăn bổ sung và tình trạng dinh dưỡng của trẻ 6-23 tháng tuổi dưới tác động của truyền thông giáo dục dinh dưỡng trong thực hành nuôi dưỡng trẻ nhỏ. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy sau 2 năm can thiệp truyền thông giáo dục tỷ lệ bà mẹ có thực hành cho trẻ ăn bổ sung đúng đã được cải thiện: Tỷ lệ đa dạng hóa thực phẩm cho trẻ tăng từ 29,1% lên 85,4%(p<0,001); các chỉ số Z-score cân nặng theo tuổi (WAZ), Z-score chiều cao theo tuổi (HAZ) tăng lần lượt từ -0.85±0.97 và -1.16±1.08 lên -0,58±0,90 và -1,03±1,02 (p<0,001). Tỷ lệ trẻ suy dinh dưỡng (SDD) nhẹ cân giảm từ 13,0% xuống 4,7% (p<0,05) và tỷ lệ thấp còi giảm từ 24,1% xuống 16,7% (p<0,001). Tỷ lệ thiếu máu giảm từ 38,4% xuống 23,9%(p<0,001). Nồng độ Hemoglobin trung bình của trẻ tăng từ 111,2±10,1 g/L lên 112,8± 10,1 g/L(p<0,001). Như vậy truyền thông giáo dục dinh dưỡng đã có tác động cải thiện về thực hành cho trẻ ăn bổ sung của bà mẹ cũng như tình trạng dinh dưỡng của trẻ 6-23 tháng tuổi tại các địa bàn nghiên cứu.

A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess whether there would be anychanges inmother’s practices on complementary feeding and nutritional status of children aged 6-23 monthsas the result of the Nutritional Education and Communication program. The study was carried out in 2008 and in 2010 among the pairs of mothers (aged 18-35 years) and children (aged 6-23 months). Mothers wereconsulted by trained nutritionistsduring home visits and group discussion were focused on practices of complementary feeding and social marketing of multi-micronutrient fortified powder. After 2 years of intervention, proportion of children aged 6-23 months consumed all recogmended five food groups per day increased significantly from 29.1% to 85.4% (p<0.001). Anthropometric indices of children were improved. In particular, Z-score Weight for Age (WAZ), Z-scoreHeight for Age (HAZ) increased from -0.85 ± 0.97 and -1.16 ± 1.08 to -0.58 ± 0.90 and -1.03 ± 1.02, respectively (p<0.001). Proportion of underweight significantly decreased from 13.0% to 4.7% (p<0.05) while proportion of stunning decreased from 24.1% to 16.7% (p<0.001), Proportion of children with anemia was decreased from 38.4% into 24.4% (p<0,001) after the invention. Hemoglobin concentration was increased from 111.2 ± 10.1 g/L to 112.8 ± 10.1 g/L (p<0.001). Thus nutrition communication and education can improve the mothers’ feeding practices and the nutritional status of the children.
