The study was conducted on 20 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 years old in Minh Khai, Vu Thu, Thai Binh, in order to change the practice of using iron and zinc fortified rice (IZnFR) with Trial of Improved Practice (TIP) method.
Assess the pattern of physical activity (PA) among children and parental feeding practices is the core contents for studies or interventions for controlling childhood overweight and obesity. Objectives: (1) To determine some characteristics of physical activity among primary school children in Hai Phong City; 2) To determine the association between childhood overweight/obesity and parents’ perception of their children’s weight or appearance.
Objective: To identify the prevalence of malnutrition, to describe body composition and the correlation between body composition and malnutrition among preschool children. A study to determine fatty acid content in 42 food items selected from the list of foods that are the major sources of fat in the diet of adults from 8 provinces belong to four different geographic regions in Vietnam was conducted in 2009 at the Department of Food Science and Food Safety of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Aims: To describe and identify associated factors with 5-year longitudinal changes in physical activities (PA) and sedentary behaviours among urban adolescents in HCMC. Methods: Data of a 5-year cohort study were collected from 2004 to 2009 on a representative sample of 759 adolescents from 18 schools in HCMC.
The intervention study was conducted in 4 months in 2012 on 150 anemic children from 12 to 35 months old in Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province. It aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Lyzivita supplementation (in form of sprinkles) on improved nutritional status and micronutrient deficiecies of these children.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Vietnamese adults aged 20 and above in 2009 in Hanoi capital, Thua Thien Hue Province, and Ho Chi Minh City to determine the prevalence and associated factors of overweight. A total of 1,530 adults living in surveyed areas were randomly selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method. Overweight was defined as BMI ≥ 23.0kg/m2.
A cross sectional study was carried out at some kindergartens and primary school in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi aiming to assess the nutritional status (prevalence of overweight/obesity) among 2375 children of 4-9 years old, and to assess blood lipid disorders, dietary intake, and physical activities of 150 overweight/obese children. Method: Anthropometric indices (weight, height) and the levels of Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL-Cholesterol; LDL-Cholesterol of fasting blood samples were measured.
The study carried out in 379 postmenopausal (over 5 years) women aged 50-70 years at Tam Hung commune, Thanh Oai district, Hanoi aimed to assess osteoporosis status and related factors by a cross-sectional descriptive survey. The results showed that: Prevalence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women aged 50-70 years (no menses over 5 years) at Tam Hung - Thanh Oai district was 39.3%; the rate of bone loss was 53.5%.
Childhood overweight and obesity are rising rapidly in Vietnam. It is more evident in the major cities such as Hai Phong City. However, studies on this issue and the risk factors in Hai Phong City are not sufficient. Objective: (1) To determine the associations between diet and physical activity (PA) and development of childhood overweight and obesity in some primary schools in Hai Phong City, (2) To determine the impact of socio-economic status (SES) on the relationships between diet and PA and childhood overweight and obesity.
A cross- sectional study on the balance characteristics of current food intake and folate consumption of 30 women of reproductive age at Duong Lam village, Son Tay, Hanoi showed that: average food portion eaten by women of child-bearing age was 1,117±228g/person/day.

Objective: To assess the effect of a formula for stunted children on the nutritional status of stunted children 1-3 years old. Methods: Intervention study, controlled, before-after evaluation. 120 stunted children were divided into 2 groups (intervention and control group), intervention group using the formula for stunted children (95.1 grams / day).

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out on 1,640 children from 12 to 47 months of age in 04 communes of Luc Ngan District, Bac Giang Province.
Several factors that influence histamine content in scad products were investigated in a cross sectional study in Thanh Hoa province in 2012. Histamine levels were found from 0.28mg/kg to 1665mg/kg in fresh scads and from 0.08mg/kg to 241mg/kg in processed scads. The histamine content depends on the type of scad, duration from purchasing to processing, the storage conditions, and primary-processing procedures.
A population-based, cross-sectional survey was done in a rural area of Hanoi in 2010 to determine the prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and related factors in Vietnamese infants aged 1-6 months. A total of 186 infants aged 1-6 months and who were breast fed, and their mothers were randomly selected and invited to participate.
Vitamin A (VA) status of children aged 6-36 month after the supplementation of high-dose VA, and risk factors were investigated in 233 subjects, in 2 mountainous communes, Thai Nguyen province.

Objective: To describe physical activity (PA) among 5 year old children. Method: Body weight and height of 96 children (51 boys, 45 girls) at 5 years old at the kindergarten A Ha Noi were measured. Subjects were asked to wear an accelerometer (Omron Active style Pro HJA – 350IT) while awake, during running of walking for 5 consecutive weekdays and not to wear while taking a bath or swimming.

To validate a method to analyze clenbuterol in pork/ chicken meats by High Performance Liquid Chromatography with detector UV and surveyed the clenbuterol residues in the main foodstuff markets in Hanoi, we carried out a study at Department of food hygiene and safety at the National Institute of Nutrition in 2011.
The objective of this study is to validate ion chromatography method for the determination of Na, K, Mg and Ca in food. Food items were selected from the list that have no data in the Food Composition Table. The food samples were ashed and then diluted by chlohydric acid prior to the quantification of minerals using cation exchange chromatography.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of early de-worming and multi-micronutrient supplementation on stunting children who are Pakoh and Van Kieu ethnics in Quang Tri province. Methods: A cluster randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted among 284 stunting children, in which had 141 worm infection.
